Corrections log
- Oct. 17, 2026 — ITIN guide: replaced the statement that the IRS does not share ITIN information with immigration enforcement. The IRS agreed in 2025 to share some taxpayer data with ICE; courts have since blocked it, and appeals are pending. Also: the Illinois EITC is open to ITIN filers.
- Oct. 17, 2026 — Visas: asylum applications now have a $100 filing fee and an annual fee under H.R. 1 (we had said there was no fee). Updated the H-1B selection process, and corrected the Heartland Alliance listing (the Kovler Center offers health and social support, not legal services).
- Oct. 17, 2026 — Family Safety Plan: corrected the standby guardianship description (the written designation alone does not give full authority; the guardian must go to court within 60 days). A guardian must live in the U.S., not necessarily in Illinois. Removed an unsourced claim about electronic witnesses, and added cautions about joint bank accounts.
- Oct. 17, 2026 — School enrollment: removed "until age 21" from the Plyler v. Doe description, and stated CPS's ICE policy as CPS states it (no records shared without a court order or parent consent).
- Oct. 15, 2026 — Family Safety Plan: removed an unsourced claim that many Illinois courts require a guardian to have legal immigration status.
- Oct. 15, 2026 — School enrollment: corrected CPS phone numbers to (773) 553-2060 (Office of Access & Enrollment) and (773) 527-3203 (newcomer/multilingual support).
- Oct. 15, 2026 — ITIN guide: corrected Ladder Up's eligibility (households under $40,000 in 2026) and phone number, and added the free IRS/VITA option.
- Oct. 15, 2026 — Medicaid article: added an update that HBIA closed July 1, 2025 and HBIS is closed to new enrollment.

Registro de correcciones
- 17 oct.
